FAQs
Carpentry questions, answered.
- Can you restore original sash windows?
- Yes — sash cord replacement, parting bead and staff bead renewal, draught-proofing with brush seals, glass replacement, and full sash rebuilding where rot has set in. Restoration almost always beats replacement on listed or character properties.
- Do you supply the timber?
- Either works. We can supply at trade prices (often cheaper than retail) or fit timber you've sourced yourself. For paint-grade work we use Tulipwood / poplar; for stain or oil finishes we recommend European oak or accoya.
- How long does it take to fit a built-in wardrobe?
- A typical alcove unit takes 2–3 days on-site after a 5–7 day fabrication lead time. We can finish unpainted or pre-prime and recommend a decorator (often one of our own team).
- Do you fit internal doors?
- Yes — supplying and hanging from stock or bespoke. Allow 1.5 hours per door for a clean swap including hinge mortising and latch alignment. We also stock 6-panel, shaker and modern flush styles in standard sizes.
- Can you fix squeaky floorboards?
- Usually yes, often without lifting the floor. We screw-fix from above (counter-bored and plugged on hardwoods) or below from a cellar where one exists. We diagnose the cause first — squeaks can mean loose boards, dry joists, or movement in the subfloor.
